CounterForce offers intensive therapy to address problems of family dysfunction, marital discord, adolescent rebellion, aggressive behavior, low self-esteem, and more. Family therapists are licensed clinicians with extensive experience to provide this service. There is a sliding-fee scale. Many medical insurances are accepted.

Many of today’s children are having a hard time coping with the pressures, demands and expectations of school, family and community. CounterForce has an in-school counselor in more than 50 schools in the Greater New York area. Professional counselors offer individual or group counseling as needed.

Outreach & Mentoring - Pirchi Alpert, L.C.S.W.
CounterForce provides mentoring to at-risk youth. Our mentors are dedicated and caring and continually receive professional supervision. There is no fee for this service, and it takes place at a location arranged by the client and mentor.

School Placement & Dropout Prevention - Rabbi Yehuda Zakutinsky,

In an effort to prevent student expulsion from school, CounterForce will work with school principals and with students who are on the brink of expulsion. For those students who have been expelled or who have dropped out, CounterForce will help place them in alternative school settings.

Remediation and Tutoring - Miriam Heilbrun, M.S.
CounterForce provides remedial tutoring for students with learning differences. Personalized programs are designed for students in a one-on-one setting or in small groups. Students are assisted in developing academic skills, overcoming emotional and behavioral obstacles to learning, developing self understanding, and improving self esteem. Tutors are under the supervision of the program administrator, so that each child’s progress can be closely monitored. The remedial program provides P3 and SDFSCA services. Services take place in the school setting or in our offices during after-school hours.

Psycho-Educational Evaluations - Susanna Morgenthau, M.A.
There are many reasons why a child may not do well in school. Psycho-educational testing will provide specific diagnostic feedback and recommendations for treatment. There’s a sliding-fee scale for this service. Testing is done at the CounterForce office.

Parent Training - Susan Lamm, L.C.S.W. and Sterna Lerman, L.C.S.W.
CounterForce provides a six-session parent training course that addresses parenting issues such as building children’s self esteem, family communication, parental responsibilities, promoting family values, reinforcing positive behavior and preventing negative behavior, proper discipline, teaching children problem-solving skills, and promoting positive parent-child relationships. Skills taught can benefit even the most successful parent.

CounterForce trains teachers to use psychological approaches in classroom management and special methodologies in working with atypical and learning disabled children. Through this training, teachers will develop better communication and listening skills.

Step Parenting Workshops - Susan Lamm, L.C.S.W.
Remarried couples and stepfamilies have their own unique problems. CounterForce provides interactive sessions to educate orthodox stepparents to cope with their specific issues and to promote good family adjustment and healthy family functioning and communication. This service is free.

Preparing Young Women for Marriage - Sterna Lerman, L.C.S.W.
The impact that a “kallah teacher” (a teacher/counselor who works with young women who are engaged to be married) has on the bride-to-be is immeasurable. CounterForce provides vital mental health knowledge and information, including proper marriage communication and relationship skill building, to these teachers. There is no fee.
